Jamaica’s murder rate is 8% lower than last year

With just a few days remaining in the year, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that some 1,349 Jamaicans have been murdered across the island up to Saturday, December 16.

According to the JCF crime statistics report, this represents a 8.2 per cent reduction in murders compared to the same period last year, when 1,469 murders were recorded.

The parish of St James leads with the highest number of murders for the period at 185 murders. Following is the St Andrew South Police Division with 117, the parish of Westmoreland with 113, the St Catherine North Police Division 112, Clarendon 102 and the St Catherine South Police Division with 100.

The JCF is also reporting a reduction in shootings, rape, robbery, and break-ins.
