Prime Minister Holness hails Chin as a business giant, while Opposition Leader called him a visionary
Jamaica’s political leaders are expressing sadness at the passing of the founder and chairman of the LASCO Affiliated Companies, Lascelles Chin.
News of Chin’s passing in the United States last night, where he had gone for treatment, has been dominating the airwaves and social media platforms all day.
In his tribute, Prime Minister Andrew Holness remarked “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Jamaican business giant and philanthropist, Lascelles Chin. His entrepreneurial prowess transformed Lasco into a household name, while his philanthropy uplifted countless lives.” Holness described the late Lasco Chairman as “a visionary leader and advocate for change, his legacy will forever inspire us. Rest in peace. Mr. Chin”
For his part, Opposition Leader Mark Golding commented, “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Lascelles Chin, O.J. C.D., a true Jamaican visionary and innovative entrepreneur.”
He went on to state “From trading to manufacturing to financial services, he developed the Lasco brand that brought value to the people, a reputation underscored by his genuine personal humility. The Lasco brand has become synonymous with quality and affordability among our people.”
The Opposition Leader continued, “Today, we remember Lascelles Chin for his tremendous contribution to Jamaica’s business landscape and consumers. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence will forever inspire us. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.”
