Reggae Boy Richard King is in a celebratory mood as his club St Mirren won the Scottish League Cup for just the second time in their history, beating holders Celtic 3-1 at Hampden Park in the final on Sunday (December 14).

The 23-year-old King joined St Mirren in June from Cavalier FC and was integral in St Mirren’s success as he marshalled the backline in the heart of the 3-5-2 formation.

King captained Cavalier to consecutive Jamaica Premier League titles and the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup and caught the eyes of St Mirren. He also excelled with the national team, making over 30 appearances.

St Mirren, with a stadium capacity of nearly 8,000, are currently ninth in the Scottish Premier League on 14 points from 15 games, including three wins, five draws and seven defeats, while many-time champions Celtic are second on 32 points.

Formed in 1877, St Mirren were winning the League Cup for the second time, having first done so in 2013. They have won the Scottish Cup on three occasions in 1926, 1959 and 1987.

It was a massive win for Sr Mirren against one of, if not the most successful clubs in Scottish history.
