Jamaica’s Raymond Richards won a bronze medal in the men’s high jump, while the Mixed Relay team was disqualified from bronze as Brianna Lyston and Jonielle Smith won their 60m heats on the second day morning session of the World Athletics Indoor Championships at Kujawsko-Pomorska, Poland.
The 24-year-old Richards leapt to 2.26m for third behind Ukraine’s Oleh Doroshchuk, who won gold with 2.30m, the same as silver medallist Erick Portillo of Mexico.
Richards shared the bronze with South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo. Both cleared 2.26m and could not be separated.
It was Richard’s second bronze, having finished third in Nanjing, China, last year, as he continued to create high jumping history for Jamaica, as Romaine Beckford finished ninth with 2.22m.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s disqualified Mixed Relay team saw their appeal thrown out, said team manager Brian Smith.
“The results stand after our appeal,” Smith told Our Today.

Jamaica have slipped in both the Medal table to fifth with three medals inclusive of two silver and a bronze. Ukraine jumped to the top with two gold and a silver in their three medals, with the United States of America slipping to second with three medals, including two gold and a bronze.
Jamaica also slipped a spot in the Placing table to third with 22 points behind Ukraine on 23 and the USA on top with 28 points.
Earlier, Jamaica’s Brianna Lyston and Jonielle Smith safely navigated their way into the semi-finals of the Women’s 60m. Lyston clocked a season best 7.06 and was the joint quickest along with Julian Alfred who won her heat in 7.06. Smith looked easy in winning Heat Two in 7.13 and looked to have a lot in reserve.
In the Men’s 60m hurdles, both Demario Prince and Jerome Campbell advanced to the semi-finals. Prince won his heat in 7.58 seconds while Campbell was third in 7.67.
Meanwhile, there were no such luck in the 800 metres for Jamaica as 800m as veteran Natoya Goule-Toppin and rising star Navasky Anderson both failed to make the finals.
Goule-Toppin finished fourth in her semi-final, clocking 2:00.69 while Anderson was third in his semi-final in 1:46.65.
