For everything, they have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, international recording artiste Shaggy will be celebrating healthcare workers with a free concert in Orlando, Florida on July 17.
The concert which is being put on by Florida-based attorney Dan Newlin, will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and will also feature American rapper Flo Rida.
Speaking to the event’s importance, Newlin stated: “Our healthcare workers and first-responding medical teams placed their lives in grave danger this year. No one ever expected a pandemic but, when it hit, our healthcare workers were warriors, saving thousands of lives and providing kind and compassionate care to those who were suffering.”
He continued: “We want to thank our healthcare workers with a free night of entertainment with musical artistes Shaggy and Flo Rida.”
In light of this, Shaggy has promised that he will give all attendees a the concert a show to remember.
In an interview, the Jamaica-born, diamond selling artiste said: “They can expect a show from myself and Flo Rida. I’m sure there will be some sort of VIP care package for them and other surprises. We’re having another meeting about it next week and every time we have a meeting about it there’s another great idea that comes up.”
The Hard Rock venue has been cleared to allow 3,000 attendees at the concert, and ticket registration is open to all.
On the matter of hosting a similar event for Jamaican healthcare workers, the Boombastic singer born Orville Burrell stated, “It would be cool… . For the last two years, the healthcare workers, or frontline workers, have been our saviours — they’ve been our heroes, and this is an opportunity for them to just let their hair down and it also is an opportunity for us to say ‘Thank you!’ to them. It’s one of those things that would be great.”
In the meantime, Shaggy encouraged citizens to continue to follow COVID-19 protocols being enforced by the World Health Organization and health authorities.
He added: “Some of us are blessed with the ability to work online and we should continue to practise social distancing as much as possible. The healthcare workers especially have to be very careful because they’re first responders and they come back home to their families. I’d like to say to them, it’s not without thanks — their efforts are not unnoticed.”
