Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, has hailed the country’s South Coast as a beacon of resilience following the resort area’s robust reopenings.
Attractions, accommodations and tourist experiences are back in full swing and mark a powerful testament to the resilience, unity and preparedness of Jamaica’s tourism sector and local communities.
The Minister, who is on an official tour of the area, commended the efforts of stakeholders across the island, noting, “The rapid recovery of Jamaica’s South Coast is a powerful demonstration of our resilience as a people and as a tourism destination. In the face of Hurricane Melissa, our stakeholders came together with urgency and purpose to restore operations, protect livelihoods, and ensure that visitors can once again enjoy the authentic beauty and experiences that define this region. Jamaica remains open, strong, and ready to welcome the world.”
From the tranquil shores of Treasure Beach to the natural wonders of YS Falls and the Black River Safari, the South Coast is once again welcoming visitors with its signature blend of authenticity, adventure, and relaxation. Restoration efforts were swift and strategic, ensuring that the region’s offerings are not only restored but also enhanced for an even better visitor experience.
“We recognise that there is more to do to enhance and even reimagine this touristic and beloved area, and that is what we will be doing alongside the rebuilding. We want our repeat and new visitors to have more memorable experiences that will create memories for a lifetime,” said
Key attractions, boutique hotels, villas, and eco-tourism experiences have resumed operations, supported by ongoing infrastructure checks and safety assurances. Some of these include the Appleton Estate Rum experience, Pelican Bar, Lashings and Jakes Hotel. The Jamaica Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and its agencies, worked closely with stakeholders to provide updates, support restoration activities, and reinforce confidence in the destination.
The South Coast, known for its laid-back charm, unspoiled landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, continues to play a vital role in Jamaica’s tourism diversification strategy. Its reopening is expected to boost visitor arrivals and provide a strong economic uplift for local communities.
Director of Tourism, Donovan White, added, “We are pleased to assure our global partners and visitors that Jamaica remains open for business. The South Coast’s recovery is a clear indication of our commitment to resilience, sustainability, and delivering exceptional experiences year-round.”
Visitors are encouraged to return and rediscover the magic of the South Coast, where nature, culture, and community come together in a uniquely Jamaican way. They can also explore other resort areas and experiences across the island from Kingston to Montego Bay or Negril.
