The Jamaica Boxing Association’s president Stephen Bomber Jones was elected to sit on the PanAmerican Boxing Confederation executive at its inaugural congress which was held last week in Panama City, Panama.
The congress was a historic event that brought together members of the 18 national federations across the continent that form this new organization as American Elise Seignolle was elected as president of the Confederation, marking the beginning of a new era for Pan American boxing with the goal of strengthening and promoting the sport in the region.
During the congress the proposed agenda was unanimously approved and the statutes of the PanAmerican Boxing Confederation were ratified, establishing the legal and operational foundations of the organization.
Jones, who has been Jamaica’s president for 14 years, dating back to 2011, was extremely proud and believes this gives Jamaica some voice in the region.
“So, it gives Jamaica a voice at the decision-making table which ensures that our boxers and programs receive the necessary attention, funding and opportunities to grow on the international stage. So, I think it’s a big step and I welcome the opportunity and the responsibility,” said Jones.
“I am honoured to have been elected to the Pan-American Boxing Confederation board. It’s a huge step forward for Jamaica and Caribbean boxing as being on the board allows us to have direct input in shaping policies and developmental programs that will impact the entire region,” he added.
