Jamaica kicks off its Tourism Awareness Week today Sunday (September 25) with a thanksgiving service at the Montego Bay New Testament Church of God in St James, beginning at 11:00 am.

The Week, slated for September 25 to October 1, will incorporate the observance of World Tourism Day on September 27, under the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’. Among the events planned to commemorate the week is the hosting of a Style Jamaica Runway Show.

The event will take place on Monday (September 26) at the Breezeway, between 60 and 64 Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett.

Speaking at a recent Jamaica Information Service ‘Think Tank’ session, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, remarked that, “Tourism Awareness Week offers a period of reflection… when we can pause to take a harder look at how we have been making this great industry valuable to our people”.

He further informed that this year’s World Tourism Day theme will also guide Jamaica’s activities for Tourism Awareness Week… “as we continue to raise awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value”.
