On this World Book and Copyright Day, the Jamaican Copyright Licensing Agency (JAMCOPY) has unveiled a bold new visual identity, marking a significant step in its mission to champion the rights of Jamaican authors and publishers and to bring copyright education to the forefront of public consciousness.

Since its incorporation in 1998, JAMCOPY, the national copyright management organisation for reproduction rights, has been a steadfast advocate for creatives and the use of copyright-protected print works. In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, where content is copied, shared, and repurposed at the click of a button, understanding and respecting copyright have become more urgent than ever.

“Our rebrand signals more than just a new logo, it is a call to action for our citizens,” shared Karene Miller, chief executive officer of JAMCOPY. “We want Jamaicans to truly value the creative work that shapes our education system, our culture, and our national identity. That means making copyright compliance easier to understand, and more digestible.”

She continued, “It is indisputable that Jamaica is full of talent and JAMCOPY firmly supports systems that allow our creatives to thrive. Strong copyright culture is not only about safeguarding rights, it is about building sustainable careers as well as respecting and keeping local content alive and thriving. JAMCOPY acts as a bridge between creators and users of copyright material, offering an efficient and convenient service whereby the society can benefit from the works of creators while respecting copyright and complying with the Copyright Act of Jamaica.”

Despite its critical role, JAMCOPY remains under the radar for many Jamaicans, including educators, students, publishers and policymakers. The new unveiling forms part of a broader public education push to close that gap.

JAMCOPY reaffirms its commitment to visibility, advocacy, and partnership. Copyright is a fundamental intellectual property right.

As JAMCOPY ramps up its outreach, it encourages schools, public and private institutions, and content users across the island to embrace a deeper appreciation and respect for intellectual property.
