Franchise captain Jason Holder, the number-one Test all-rounder in the world, along with the number-10 ODI batsman Shai Hope and the big-hitting Kyle Mayers, are among nine players being retained by the Barbados Tridents for the 2021 Hero CPL set to begin on August 28 in St Kitts and Nevis.

The 2019 CPL champions have also chosen to retain talented all-rounder Raymon Reifer, Justin Greaves, leg spinner Hayden Walsh Jr, who was the Player of the Tournament in 2019, as well as Joshua Bishop for the coming season. Seasoned campaigner and opening batsman Johnson Charles and Nyeem Young were also retained.

“We are really excited to welcome back our retained players and especially look forward to making Barbados and all Tridents’ fans very proud in our upcoming 2021 season,” said Barbados Tridents CEO Kailash Pardasani.

“Our primary driving factor is the Barbados Tridents family which comprises our players, their extended families and all fans across the globe. This together with our love and passion for the game of cricket will enable us to bring the Hero CPL 2021 title back home as we did in 2019.”

Hero CPL champions in 2014, the Barbados Tridents were runners-up in 2015, losing by 20 runs in the finals to Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel (now the Trinbago Knight Riders).

The Tridents did not make it back to a final until 2019 when Captain Holder helped inspire a late turnaround of form that saw them advance and eventually defeat the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 27 runs.
