Jamaica College (JC) and Edwin Allen Girls have surged to the top of the standings of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships on the second day.
JC are on top with 54 points after eight of the 42 finals and are 16 clear of St Jago High on 38 points. Calabar High are in third spot on 36 points with champions Kingston College sitting in fourth spot on 31 points. Wolmer’s Boys round out the top five on 25 points.
Edwin Allen leads the Girls section on 68 points after nine of the 46 finals and established a 39-point lead over second-placed Holmwood Technical on 29 points.
Clarendon College are third with 27 points, ahead of Excelsior High on 19 points, completing the top five. Champions Hydel High are struggling, languishing in ninth spot on 15 points with a lot of work to do.
The second day was highlighted by outstanding sprinting from Shanoya Douglas of Holland High who won the girls Class One 100m in a magnificent 10.98 (0.7 m/s).
The silky smooth Douglas avenged her only defeat of the season, turning back the challenge of Alexxe Henry of Edwin Allen and Trinidad and Tobago who was second in 11.21.
The 17-year-old Douglas’ 10.98 is the best time in the world at all levels; in fact, she has the best two times amongst the seniors, as her 11.06 clocking done on March 6, is the second best in the world.

Renecia Edwards of Edwin Allen was third in 11.45 and Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s Girls was fourth in 11.59. Shemonique Hazle of Hydel crashed to the turf and seems to have been badly injured.
Excelsior’s Riquelme Reid sped to an impressive personal best of 10.12 (1.2 m/s) to win the Boys Class One 100m. Reid held off the charging Tyreece Foreman of St George’s College who was second in a personal best of 10.21. Romaio Finnigan of Edwin Allen was third in 10.22, also a personal best.
Wolmer’s Natrece East ran her personal best, stopping the clock at 11.21 to win the Class Two 100m, just outside the record of 11.16 held by Kevona Davis since 2018.
JC’s rising star Kai Kelly sped to 10.28 (0.6 m/s) to win the Class Two crown and just missed the record of 10.20 held by Schin Dennis since 2018.
Wolmer’s Boys Ajani Lumley and Joshua McWilliams took the top two spots in the Class Three final, clocking 10.71 and 10.81.
Danelia Clarke of Edwin Allen took the girls’ Class Three 100m in 11.66 ahead of Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt in 11.74. Excelsior’s Brianna Gray won the Class Four event in 12.01.
