The Government provided a much-needed mobility boost to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), as 274 new vehicles were added to its service fleet on Wednesday (February 19).

The vehicles, inclusive of 121 pick-up trucks, 90 motorcycles, 55 SUVs, and eight buses, were handed over to the force in a ceremony at the police commissioner’s Old Hope Road operational headquarters.

Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang indicated that the vehicular investment totalled J$1.2 billion and was a demonstration of the government’s continued support for the JCF.

In accepting the donation, Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake expressed his appreciation of the
government’s continued investment in the JCF. He noted that the addition of the vehicles aligns
with broader modernisation efforts, which centre on ensuring every police officer is equipped
with the necessary resources to effectively do their job.

“This is not just a ribbon-cutting ceremony and shaking of hands; it is indeed a part of a broader transformation that is underway,” said the commissioner.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dennis Brooks emphasised the importance of modernising the force’s transportation resources.

He told the small gathering that for the JCF, vehicles are critical tools that enable police officers to serve the Jamaican people effectively.

“And on behalf of all members, I pledge to the people of Jamaica, the JCF’s continued relentless
and unapologetic effort in pushing back against criminals and their supporters, so we can have
safer communities and a safer country for generations to come,” he said.
