The Police High Command has condemned an attack on a constable, who was mowed down by a motorist during a traffic stop Thursday evening.

Reports are that the constable, who was assigned to the Patrol Division (BOPD) of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), was struck by a motorist he had signalled to stop for a violation of the Road Traffic Act on Thursday evening, August 8.

The police officer remains in the hospital after suffering multiple injuries.

“We denounce this senseless act of violence against our officers and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the law, safeguarding our citizens, and maintaining order. Any form of violence towards our officers will be met with the strictest application of the law,” the High Command said.

The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement and refrain from actions that jeopardise lives.
