The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is urging Jamaicans to report missing persons immediately, while stating that there is a common misconception that citizens must wait 24 hours before filing a missing person report.

This is not accurate information, the JCF stated.

In a statement, the JCF revealed that the disappearance of a loved one is a deeply distressing experience and therefore encourages Jamaicans to know the correct procedure for reporting a missing person to the police, particularly in difficult times.

“If a person is missing, you should report it to the police immediately. Prompt reporting is crucial as it allows us to begin our investigation and search efforts without delay, increasing the chances of locating the individual safely,” the JCF said.

The JCF said every moment counts when someone is missing and has also implored citizens to make contact if they believe someone is missing.

“To report a missing person, please visit your nearest police station or contact them by phone. When making a report, be prepared to provide as much detail as possible about the missing person, including their full name, date of birth, physical description, clothing last worn, last known location, and any relevant circumstances surrounding their disappearance,” the JCF added.

Also, providing a recent photograph is highly recommended.
