The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has surpassed its targeted quota of 14,000 members, says Security Minister Dr Horace Chang.

Chang made the announcement during the JCF change-of-command ceremony on Monday, March 18, where the outgoing commissioner of police, Major General Anthony Anderson, passed the mantle to the newly appointed commissioner, Dr Kevin Blake.

The security minister said the quota was met at last week’s Passing Out Parade of some 148 new police constables in the force.

” I have had the privilege of attending many graduations and we have in fact now recruited maybe some 6000 officers since 2018 as we sought to expand and take the force to another level in terms of share numbers to deal with a growing problem. I think as of today, we should say we are near what was the establishment, it is the first time for a very long time and I think the outgoing commissioner can take a lot of credit for that, that we are at 14,000 after the graduation on Wednesday. We have just made it,” Chang said.

The security minister said Wednesday’s addition of new constables now brings the force tally to 14,094.

“I extend my gratitude to the outgoing commissioner, Major General Anthony Anderson. We have trod the route together, I wish you well as you move on. We expect your experience and appreciation of the ecosystem will still be available for advice and consultations from time to time. I want to particularly welcome Dr Kevin Blake, who will now take the responsibility of guiding the Jamaica Constabulary Force. We have said a powerful force for good but security has the government has indicated without an apology, is one of the pillars for national development. We wish you well and the Government commits to give support to the entire police force,” Chang added.
