The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) successfully rescued 24 persons who were trapped in flood waters at the intersection of Amity Hall and Golden Grove, otherwise known as Hordley Crossing, in St Thjomas.

Reports are that the individuals were stuck since 6 p.m. on Thursday when heavy rains flooded the area.

A JDF helicopter was sent to airlift the citizens on Friday. They were taken to the Wheelersfield Community Centre.

A Tropical Storm Watch, Flash Flood Warning, and Flash Flood Watch remain in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, the chances of tropical cyclone development have been decreasing.

Citizens are urged to avoid flooded roadways and maintain caution while traversing the island.
