President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Michael Ricketts, believes the Reggae Girlz could do what no other Jamaican football team has done and qualify for a third consecutive Senior FIFA World Cup.

The Girlz have already created history by being the first Caribbean team to reach the World Cup in France 2019, then repeated the feat in Australia in 2023.

Ricketts strongly believes the team is on course to qualify for the 2027 version set for Brazil.

“I honestly think that we have a really good chance of making it three in a row,” he told Our Today, in an exclusive interview.

“We have a good coach in place, a coach that knows these players well and the players know him well on the other hand,” he explained.

That coach, Hubert Busby, returned to the Reggae Girlz set up for his second stint as head coach in May 2024, having held the position from 2020 to 2021.

“So, we are pretty confident, and coach Bugsy is getting in some young players to replace some older ones,” Ricketts pointed out.

Jamaica are set to play three International Friendlies in the next three FIFA windows.

The Reggae Girlz will first travel to France for a game on Friday, October 25 then play South Africa twice on Friday, November 29 and Monday, December 2, 2024.

“We have a decent squad and the players are now settled. We just hope to execute on the field of play, and we will be in our third consecutive FIFA World Cup,” Ricketts reiterated.

Jamaica’s first-round opponent is yet to be decided in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers in which the region will have four spots for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be hosted in Brazil and two other teams from CONCACAF will qualify for the Intercontinental playoffs.
