An excited and ecstatic Jamaica and West Coast Fever goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler has described as amazing her winning the Suncorp Super Netball ‘Player of the Year’ award for a record the fourth year running on Wednesday (December 8).
The ‘Player of the Year’ award is decided by league players, coaches and high-performance staff who are asked to vote for the best player at the conclusion of every regular-season match.
Like she has done for the previous three seasons, Fowler again finished the 2021 season as the league’s top goalscorer with 891 goals and also had three perfect 100 per cent shooting accuracy matches.
She also topped the league in net points and shots attempted. She was second behind Romelda Aiken in the number of offensive rebounds. In short, she was simply amazing.
“I am beyond humbled, excited to be announced the MVP for the fourth season in a row. How amazing is that?” Fowler said in her acceptance speech from her home in Jamaica. She returned to the island earlier this week from the Vitality Roses Series in England where the home side defeated the Sunshine Girls 2-1.
“Thanks to everyone who voted for me and thank you to my amazing family who have supported me throughout my entire career, who have been my backbone for me being the person that I am today, the player that I am today.”
She also expressed gratitude to her West Coast Fever teammates and coaching staff for helping her develop into one of the best players in the world.
Thanks to my West Coast Fever family who have supported me so much on and off the court,” she said. “Thanks for my West Coast Fever teammates, who are always there behind me supporting me, to the coaching staff for all that you have taught me. I am learning and there is so much room for me to grow.”
Fowler was also named to the 2021 Super Netball’ Team of the Year’ alongside compatriot Shamera Sterling, who made the team as Defensive Reserve.
