
Jhaniele Fowler scored a match-winning 55 goals as the West Coast Fever rallied to hand Giants Netball their first loss of the season, 66-65, in Suncorp Super League netball action today (May 31).
Fowler, the leading scorer in the Super League, scored her goals from just 56 attempts and was supported by Sasha Glasgow who scored five goals and critically three super-shot goals (that count as two points) for the Fever who trailed 29-37 at half-time.
Led by Jo Harten, who scored 19 goals from 21 attempts and nine super-shot goals, the Giants held sway early winning the first quarter 17-13 and then extended their lead after winning the second 20-16. Sophie Dwyer was their leading scorer with 26 goals from 33 tries. She also scored a super-shot that helped create the Giants’ first-half cushion.

However, the Fever got hot in the second half closing the gap to just three points by the end of the third quarter that they took 18-13.
They match swung in their favour when they outscored Giants 19-15 in the final stanza to seal victory.
In Sunday’s play Samantha Wallace scored 43 goals as the New South Wales Swifts defeated the Collingwood Magpies 62-53 despite Shimona Nelson’s 41 goals.
Wallace’s 43 goals came from 45 attempts as the Swifts outscored the Magpies 19-15 in the second quarter to take a four-goal lead into half-time. The first quarter ended 14-14.
Nelson and Gabrielle Sinclair, who was perfect from the field for her six goals, fought back to close the gap when they outscored the Swifts 15-12 in the third quarter but the Swifts rallied to score 17 goals to the Magpies’ nine to close out the match.
Shamera Sterling was on the losing end once again this season as the Adelaide Thunderbirds lost 58-59 to the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
Lenise Potgieter led the scoring for the Thunderbirds with 34 goals and Georgie Horjus had 20 but Cara Koenen’s 26 goals and Steph Wood’s 16 enough to emerge one-point victors.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Melbourne Vixens ran out 66-64 winners over Queensland Firebirds, their first win of the season.
The Vixens were near-perfect shooting as Mwai Kumwenda scored 27 goals from just 28 attempts and Rahni Samason scored 19 from 19.
Romelda Aiken scored 39 goals and Gretel Bueta 16 for the Firebirds, who were losing their fourth match in five games this season.
