The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) is mourning the passing of Donna Haynes, who partnered with the association over several decades as mistress of ceremonies at its annual Awards of Excellence.

“She touched millions of Jamaicans with her talent and wonderful voice on various radio and television advertisements and commentaries,” the JHTA said in a statement.

“We will miss her charming smile, calm demeanor and perfect diction.”

News of Haynes death began circulating on Friday (November 25), with persons on Twitter recalling her soothing, smooth voice in local telephone prompts, particularly those urging cell phone users to “please check to ensure that you have enough credit”.

Haynes, a former Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) marketing officer, also voiced four 30-second and a 60-second television advertisements for the 2016 US$50 million ‘No Worry’ worldwide advertising campaign, showcasing Jamaica.

With the Marley family and Sandals Resorts International joining forces for the campaign, the commercials featuring Haynes’ voice work were booked to play around the globe every five seconds.
