Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith has confirmed that all 24 Jamaican students who made a 20km trek to the Ukraine-Poland border today (February 27) are now in Poland.

“Giving God thanks tonight that all 24 are now on the bus on the way to Krakow where accommodations will be waiting for them,” Johnson Smith said in a video update on Twitter shortly after Opposition Mark Golding had posted that he had been in touch with the students who had told him they had made it across the border.

Johnson Smith said the students were met by Charge d’Affaires in Berlin Deniese Sealey and had had “something warm”.

‘A LITTLE WAYS TO GO’

She noted that there remained “a little ways to go” for them to get home to Jamaica, but they were “on their way”.
