The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says its team is actively working to restore power to customers impacted by outages resulting from the heavy rains impacting the island.

According to the light and power company, the heavy rains brought on by Potential Cyclone 22 have led to landslides, dislocated poles, and trees coming in contact with power lines. This has led to outages in several communities across the island.

“The worsening weather conditions could slow down restoration work. Our teams will not be able to continue working if the conditions are unsafe. Where there are safety concerns, we will suspend work and resume as soon as conditions improve,” the company cautioned in a release.

It added that contractors are on standby to provide support as needed.

Citizens are encouraged to stay away from broken power lines and unsafe locations.
