The country’s sole power distributor Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is reporting that supply has been restored to all its customers who were impacted by the 5.6-magnitude earthquake on Monday, October 30.

According to JPS, approximately 132,000 customers in Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Manchester, and St James were affected by power outages.

Several power-generating units and the power delivery system in the Corporate Area were reportedly impacted by the earthquake.

The affected power plants were those belonging to JPS and independent power producers (IPPs), which include the West Kingston Power Plant, Rockfort, Hunts Bay, and Jamaica Private Power Company.

The entity said power supply was restored to customers outside of the Corporate Area within a few minutes, while it worked to restore in phases power supply to its Kingston and St Andrew customers on Monday.

JPS says it continues its assessment of the overall damage to infrastructure.
