Local electricity supplier Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) has informed the public that it will pause the restoration of power due to the deteriorating weather conditions.

“For the safety of our team, we’re putting a pause on restoration for now. We are on standby to start power restoration as soon as it is safe to do so, after the passage of the hurricane,” a post from JPS on social media platform X read.

The utility company further advised that its teams have been “making every effort” to restore service to customers who have lost power but with the heightened impacts of Hurricane Beryl making conditions “more serious”, it has paused restoration.

“The safety of our workers is our number one priority. Without them being safe, we won’t be able to get your power back on as quickly as we would like,” JPS stated in the post.

While thanking customers for their patience and understanding, JPS encouraged them to stay safe and make reports using the MyJPS mobile app.

“Remember you can log an outage on the myJPS mobile app quick and easy. Get up-to-date, accurate information on our social media channels & (sic) our newly formed JPS WhatsApp channel,” the company added.

In a previous post, the company said that some communities may experience outages as hurricane conditions worsen; however, the utility provider “may transition to full shutdown to protect itself”.
