The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says members of its team were attacked by residents after they sought to remove illegal connections in the Burke Road area of Old Harbour, St Catherine, on Friday, 31 May.

The company reported that two of its team members sustained injuries to their faces and chests, while the windscreen of a van operated by the contracting firm was damaged by stones thrown by the residents.

“Members of the police force, who had accompanied the JPS teams, apprehended one of the aggressors, to which persons responded by stoning the team.

As the ensuing attack escalated, the police were forced to fire shots into the air to facilitate the safe retreat of the team and to restore order to the increasingly dangerous situation,” the company said.

JPS said a report has been made to the Old Harbour Police Station.

Members of the public are being reminded that regularisation is a simple process.

Persons who need to become regularised may call 888CALLJPS or direct message the company on the various social media platforms (@myjpsonline) for further information.
