The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has announced the appointment of Yong Hyun Kim as chairman of the Board of Directors, effective October 1.
Kim succeeds Bok Hoa Jeong, who served as chairman from April 2020 to September 2021. As a former JPS Board member (2018), Kim is no stranger to the Jamaican experience and landscape.
He has coordinated several international projects including the establishment of the 190MW Old Harbour Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant in Jamaica. Kim boasts over 20 years of experience in the electricity industry.
Having his start as an associate at the Korea Electric Power Company, the JPS said Kim brings a unique professional mix to its operations. He has experience in many areas of the electricity industry including finance, strategy and planning, performance management, and domestic and overseas business.
Kim’s most recent posting was as managing director in the Global Business Division at the Korea EastWest Power Company (EWP). In this role, he led EWP to becoming one of the biggest power providers in Korea by developing and operating new power businesses (Thermal and Renewable) all over the world.
He was also able to set up the long-term and short-term strategies for EWP’s overseas businesses, dealing with potential risks and facilitating partnerships. Kim believes that electricity has the potential to be the best and easiest way to improve the lives of people and benefit the earth.
