The Jamaica Stock Exchange e-Campus (JSE e-Campus) and the University of Technology (UTECH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate to fulfil training needs of the financial services sector.
This MOU, which was signed last week involves the offering of joint courses, progress reports, curriculum strengthening and articulation, staff and student exchange, human resource development, public education joint seminars, conferences, and publications, among others.
The MOU is expected to run for three years with the option for renewal.
Both JSE and UTECH have agreed that within the context of a globalized environment, where it is imperative to collaborate to successfully compete and make use of common resources, that there is a need for a coordinated, and rationalized approach to dealing with training issues affecting the financial services sector.
President of UTECH, Dr. Kevin Brown explained that, “UTECH will collaborate with JSE in the areas of student management, computer technology, marketing opportunities and co-branding opportunities. We are especially interested in internships and work experience in the industry. An alliance with the JSE will allow our students not only to be interns at the JSE but with the listed companies on the JSE. This is opening the entire industry to UTECH students and will allow them to become work ready when they have completed their course, therefore this MOU is more than just a MOU but a partnership.”
For her part, JSE Managing Director, Dr. Marlene Street Forrest remarked, “Today is a significant day in the history of the JSE and UTECH. It is a day that we have worked hard to realize, and today we declare that this partnership will bring meaningful changes and growth in an area of our country which needs help and is fundamental to our development and the achievement of our 2030 vision, education and training and life-long and practical learning.”
She added that the JSE is committed to the success of this relationship noting that “by working together, the JSE e-Campus and Utech will create opportunities for learners, at all levels, to contribute meaningfully to Jamaica’s human and economic development. This partnership reflects the value of collaboration and excellence that are essential for national progress.”
