In honour of World Teachers’ Day, the Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) is venturing to four school across Jamaica, allowing each school to take over its social media pages and share a snippet of how their teachers operate.

First up on the list of schools scheduled for today (October 5) was St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS). They were to be followed by New Hope Primary and Junior High, St Catherine High and Golden Grove All Age.

The theme for World Teachers’ Day this year is ‘The transformation of education begins with teachers’.

While at STETHS this morning, the council spoke with Principal Keith Wellington who shared that teachers are the backbone of society.

Keith Williams, principal of St Elizabeth Technical High School.

“It is teachers that transform a society into what it wants to evolve into. And, at STETHS I am very pleased and proud of the staff I have working with, they have done so much for our students, our community and this country,” said Wellington.

He added that today teachers should also be recognised for the tremendous work they put in over the two years of the pandemic, noting that it was not an easy task.

“They have not only been teachers but parents, caregivers and have certainty made the lives of our students much better for their interest and input on a daily basis,” shared Williams.
