Former Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who has been accused of falsely claiming to be the victim of a hate crime in 2019, took the stand in his own defense today, speaking about his career and his sexual encounters with one of his supposed attackers.

Smollett, while speaking as a witness for his defense, revealed information about his family and highlighted the success he found while working on Empire.

Smollett, who recently lost his father, said he earned US$25,000 to US$35,000 per episode on the first season of the television drama.

He also spoke about his relationship with one of of his attackers, Abel Osundairo, detailing that the pair met at a gay club in Chicago and subsequently visited a bathhouse where they did drugs including cocaine and cannabis. Smollett said he and Osundairo also made out and masturbated together.

Now, in the second week of the trial, both parties have been maintaining their stances. The Osundairo brothers, who took the stand last week, said Smollett orchestrated the entire attack as a publicity stunt.

Jussie made previous claims saying Ola Osundairo was homophobic. Ola, however, rebutted by presenting a photo of himself dressed as a Trojan Warrior handing out condoms at a Gay Pride parade to show he was friendly with the gay community.

The brothers, when describing the attack, said the Empire star wanted them to punch him, put a noose around his neck and pour gasoline on him. They however decided to use bleach instead of gasoline because the brothers felt gasoline could be too dangerous.

Smollett has pleaded not guilty to six counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly making a false police report.
