‘Just Medz It’ campaign launched to end violence in schools

The Ministry of Education has launched ‘Just Medz It’, a campaign that seeks to shift the culture of violence in schools, providing students with healthy conflict resolution skills.
At the launch on Wednesday (October 19), Minister of Education and Youth Fayval Williams said the campaign is a nationwide call to promote a culture of peace in the home, school and community.
“We want a national call to action for educators, parents, students and the general public to take personal and collective responsibility to end violence in schools,” said Williams.
‘Just Medz It’ is expected to use a multifaceted approach to end violence in schools.
Through the campaign, schools across the island will have improved infrastructure, taught and incentivised to strategies to resolve conflicts peacefully, and counseling for both parents and students.
The campaign will also explore a creative arts approach, using the arts to promote a culture of pro-social behaviour among students.
School clubs will also be expanded and have been identified by the ministry key components to the campaign.
‘Just Medz It’ will see the Government utilising both financial and human resources with many government sectors engaged.
These include the Safety and Security in Schools Unit, the Guidance Counselling Unit, the Health and Family Life Education programme, the Character Education programme, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), and the National Parenting Support Commission (NPSC).
The ministry is also asking other non-government organisations, the private sectors and communities to get involved as they seek to end violence in schools.
