Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Delroy Chuck, KC, has extended congratulations to Claudette Thompson on her appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), describing her elevation as “both well-earned and well-deserved”.
In a statement issued on Friday, Minister Chuck commended Thompson’s distinguished career in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), where she has served for more than two decades. He praised her professionalism, exceptional legal acumen, and steadfast pursuit of justice, noting that she has played a pivotal role in strengthening the prosecutorial arm of Jamaica’s justice system.
“Ms Thompson’s ascension to the helm of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is both well-earned and well-deserved,” Minister Chuck said. “Her distinguished career within the ODPP has been marked by unwavering professionalism, exceptional legal skill, and an unrelenting pursuit of justice.”
The new DPP has prosecuted and supervised numerous high-profile and complex criminal cases before the parish courts, the Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeal, earning a reputation for fairness, legal precision, and independence. Her work has included cases involving major organised crime, corruption, and homicide—areas that have tested the strength and integrity of Jamaica’s prosecutorial framework.

Minister Chuck noted that beyond her courtroom expertise, Thompson has been an effective mentor and leader within the ODPP, guiding younger prosecutors and fostering a culture of integrity and excellence.
“Her leadership and mentorship within the prosecutorial ranks have helped to strengthen the capacity and integrity of the office she now leads,” he said.
The Justice Minister described her appointment as a continuation of excellence within one of Jamaica’s most vital justice institutions, adding that he is confident she will uphold the ODPP’s reputation for independence, accountability, and public trust.
“Ms Thompson’s appointment represents a continuation of excellence within one of the most critical institutions of our justice system. I am confident that under her stewardship, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will continue to uphold the highest standards of independence, accountability, and public trust,” Minister Chuck affirmed.
Thompson succeeds former DPP Paula Llewellyn, KC, whose tenure was marked by significant institutional reforms and high-profile prosecutions.
