Justice minister pays tribute to late Senior Parish Court Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley

Delroy Chuck, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has expressed sadness at the passing on Monday of Senior Parish Judge for Hanover, Sasha-Marie Ashley.

“It is with profound sadness that I extend heartfelt condolences on the passing of Senior Parish Court Judge for Hanover, Sasha-Marie Ashley.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Government, I join the Judiciary and the wider legal fraternity in expressing deep sorrow at the loss of a remarkable jurist, whose life and service embodied integrity, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to justice,” Chuck said.

Judge Ashley’s legal career was marked by excellence and distinction. Her years of dedicated service in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reflected her formidable intellect, meticulous preparation, and steadfast pursuit of fairness. 

As a prosecutor, she approached every matter with professionalism and an unshakeable sense of duty, earning the respect of colleagues and the confidence of the courts.

Chuck added: “It is my understanding that on the bench, she demonstrated sound judgment, compassion, and a deep understanding of the law.  Judge Ashley carried out her responsibilities with dignity and balance, ensuring that justice was administered firmly yet humanely.

“Her subsequent service as Senior Parish Court Judge for Hanover further reflected her commitment to strengthening our justice system at every level. Judge Ashley’s passing is a significant loss not only to the Judiciary but to the nation as a whole. 

“In this time of grief, we extend our sincere sympathies to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her. 

“May they find comfort in her legacy of service and the lasting impact she has made on the administration of justice in Jamaica.”
