The Ministry of Justice has issued government email addresses to all justice of the peace (JPs) in an effort to improve communication and the public’s access to justice services.
There are currently 9,000 JPs across the island who can now be contacted using the email address format [email protected].
Minister of Justice Delroy Chuck said this step is necessary to bring JPs into the digital age and will increase their accessibility because “there will be one email address everyone will know”.
“If JPs use this new email address, there will be greater communication between the ministry, custodes, JPs and the citizens of Jamaica,” said Chuck.
The virtual launch of the accounts took place on October 20.

In attendance was Daryl Vaz, minister of science, energy and technology, who noted this step was instrumental as the Government tries to digitise the services “for effective governance, transparency and accountability – essential pillars for our advancement as a society”.
Marcia Bennett, custos rotulorum of St Thomas, also encouraged JPs to use the new email accounts and noted its benefits.
“I encourage all JPs to log on to this new tool as it will help to manage time, save more on resources
and propel and expand the services offered by justices of the peace,” said Bennett.
She added that it will also allow them to reach people in places they physically cannot go to and link with
organisations and communities they interact with.
