Access to public beaches in Jamaica has always been an issue up for debate.

Whether it is that there are too few or it is the condition of the facilities of the “free beaches”.

One way or another several arguments have been put forward over the years regarding them.

But we must pause to highlight the fact that Bluefields Beach Park is getting it right.

There is of course the natural beauty but the relevant authorities must be commended for the upkeep of the facilities. One may argue that it is quite possible that I visited on the ‘right’ day but what is due to Caesar must be given to Caesar.

Simply put, the compound is extremely clean.

Additionally, the plants are well groomed and in fact upon entry that is one thing that sticks out.  Of course, you could say that they are just doing their job but there is no harm in commending a job well done. Is there? Security guards are also extremely polite and their presence adds to the comfort one feels when enjoying a piece of paradise.

It really does not hurt to see lifeguards on duty as well because Jamaica has lost quite a few persons in recent times because of drowning.  Yes, of course, there are vendors but they stay outside the gate to the beach for the most part so that the beach is more controlled for beachgoers.

Therefore, as we call for many beaches to remain public and for greater access we must take a minute to commend the authorities for the proper maintenance of Bluefields Beach Park which is one of the “free beaches”.
