Kanye West’s antisemitic slurs are out of order and a cause for concern

Antisemitism is a scourge that needs to be removed from this world.

It has led to suffering and destruction for too long because people have not made a concerted effort to condemn it and see to it that it is not condoned. For too long, those who trumpet tropes and insults have been emboldened.

Now you have pop stars and rappers poisoning young impressionable minds and infecting the culture with this hate.

Kanye West is talented but he is a hate-monger. His antisemitic rants are out of order and he needs to check himself. He may feel he can say these vile things because his friend is now President of the United States and he is unlikely to face censure.

He came out with hate against Jewish people before and apologised but now he is at it again.

This time he says he is not going to apologise.

Last week, he tweeted: “I am a Nazi. I love Hitler. I’m never apologising for my Jewish comments. I can say whatever the f— I wanna say forever. Where’s my f——— apology for freezing my accounts. Suck my d—, how’s that for an apology.”

This is most disturbing and worrisome. This statement stokes further hatred and should be called out.  His rap buddies Snoop Dog and Nelly and the rest should have a word with him.

It is said that Kanye West is an icon, a rap genius. That does excuse these vile statements. It should have consequences. Corporations and sponsors cannot have their names associated with this. They cannot be seen to be supporting antisemitism and Nazis.

Germany under Nazi rule was not a good time for Jewish people and the crimes and atrocities perpetrated against them can never be allowed to happen again-ever. Those who espouse it  and actively encourage the persecution of Jewish people should be met with a firm response. Anti-semitism cannot be tolerated.

Kanye West may very well be doing all this for attention. He attempted to grab headlines at the Grammys with his girlfriend. Nowadays it’s all about clicks and unbridled sexual displays.

Then again his ex-wife Kim Kardashian said he is bipolar and his condition may have sent him off the deep end. Back in 2020 she said of her then husband: “ As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does know how incredibly complicated and painful it is to to understand.”

This still doesn’t absolve him for his hatefulness. He is a menace to society.

He has four children with Kim Kardashian. Do these celebrities want their children to know that their father is an avowed Nazi and anti-semite? Is this what his legacy will be to them?

Kanye West has gone off the rails. He truly needs Jesus and not Yeezy.

The Hollywood community and entertainment fraternity need to condemn him in the strongest fashion. What he said is abominable.

He is an African-American and should have some empathy and sympathy when it comes to hatred and racial attacks. Does he know the history of his people and what they endured? Do onto others as you would have them do unto you.

West came to Kingston in October 2019, holding his Sunday Service concert in Emancipation Park.  I was there and saw him overcome by the “spirit” or so it seemed.

It was a religious affair, with plenty of odes to Jesus. The vibe was one of Christianity. Was he genuine with this or was it some kind of marketing ploy to generate sales? I don’t recall  Jesus or Christians being the vanguard of hate. Jesus did not support the vilification of Jews.

I’m pretty sure Kanye West knows Jesus was all about love and kindness.

He should try it sometime.
