Kayon Mitchell, director of communications at Flow Jamaica, bid farewell to the company after an eight-year tenure.

Mitchell’s departure marked the culmination of a highly successful year, during which she earned recognition as the Top Manager at Flow Jamaica and secured a place among the Top 10 in the Liberty Latin America (LLA) Group, Flow’s parent company boasting approximately 11,000 employees. This recognition stems from LLA’s annual employee engagement survey, acknowledging Mitchell’s exceptional leadership in the telecommunications sector.

Having joined Flow in 2016 during the aftermath of its merger, Mitchell played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s reputation, orchestrating a significant transformation in internal and external communications while spearheading the Flow Foundation.

A recent celebration function in Mitchell’s honour underscored her contribution to the business, with colleagues praising her as “the most remarkable leader in the public relations and communications space that the business has ever seen.”

Stephen Price, vice president and general manager at Flow, in acknowledgement of Mitchell’s legacy, said, “Kayon created a remarkable legacy during her tenure.  She really blazed a trail and rolled out some solid programmes that positively impacted both our employees and the communities we serve.  She has been a guiding light, a confidante and a visionary.”

Mitchell’s leadership was instrumental in establishing Flow as a leading advocate for online safety through its Connected and Protected programme. The initiative addressed various demographics, including pre-teens, teens, parents, and senior citizens. Additionally, Mitchell orchestrated the inaugural Girls in ICT Expo, aligning with LLA’s commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

Reflecting on her tenure, Mitchell said, “I’m blessed to have been part of the story of such a progressive organisation and thankful that I was given the opportunity to strategically redefine and evolve communications within the company. Being part of the dynamic leadership team that delivered many innovative products and services to the Jamaican market allowed for further growth and for me to also directly contribute to the organisation’s success.”

Mitchell’s impact extended beyond communications as she led the team in delivering a digital education pilot, focusing on digital and data literacy training and upskilling professionals. This success laid the foundation for the Jump programme, providing high-speed connectivity, devices, and digital skills training to vulnerable households.

As executive director of the Flow Foundation, Mitchell played a pivotal role in the organisation’s strategic reset in 2020, aligning its focus with the business’ core priorities, including digital inclusion. The Foundation received the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) Corporate Service Award in 2021 for creating a supportive environment for seniors.
