Kingston College claimed their first hold on the Mortimer Geddes trophy in two years, and Edwin Allen High staved off another advance to win an eighth title as the curtains closed on the 2022 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships on Saturday (April 9).

KC, finishing with 372 points after 42 finals, takes the championship title back from defending holders Jamaica College, having amassed 300.33 points.

Former champions Calabar High placed third overall with 170 points, followed closely by St Jago High (147), Edwin Allen (94), St Elizabeth Technical High (87), Wolmer’s Boys’ High (61), Excelsior High (51), Herbert Morrison Technical High (35.5), and Petersfield High (25).

The championship trophy returns to North Street for the 33rd time in Champs history.

Not to be outdone, Edwin Allen High defended their championship run for an eighth-consecutive year, silencing yet another challenge from perennial rivals Hydel High with a points haul of 352 after 45 finals.

Hydel High had to settle for second, finishing with 295 points, ahead of St Jago High (249), Holmwood Technical (174), Excelsior High (107), St Catherine High (83), Wolmer’s Girls’ High (83), Immaculate Conception High (76), Vere Technical High (53) and Camperdown High (38).

It was a gruelling five-day sporting extravaganza that saw several reconds shattered and the overall participation from schools across the island.

Welcoming the return of fans to the National Stadium, Champs 2022 was also the competition’s first in-person spectacle since the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which forced its cancellation in 2020 and led to a spectator-less staging last year.
