KC lead top qualifiers into round of 16 in the ISSA Wata Manning Cup

Defending champion Kingston College (KC), Excelsior High, St Catherine High and Mona High heads the four group of 16 teams that have advance to the second round of the ISSA Wata Manning Cup.

The final set of first round games where played on Saturday and saw KC dropping their first points of the season in a 0-0 draw away to Tivoli Gardens High School. The Famed Purples finished top of Zone B with 28 points, with nine wins and a draw.

Tivoli Gardens finished in second spot with 21 points from their 10 games ahead of Charlie Smith on 18 points which clipped Haile Selassie High 2-1, a loss that ended their hopes as they finished fourth on 14 points.

Meanwhile, former champions  St George’s College edged Hydel High 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller and finished second in Zone A with 21 points and safely through to the second round. Hydel High ended in fourth spot with 16 points and made it through as the best fourth-placed team.

Last season’s runner-up St Catherine secured  top spot in Zone D following their 1-0 win over Eltham High. It was St Catherine’s 10th straight win from 10 games. Only two schools achieved that feat along with Mona High as they ended on 30 points.

Eltham were second with 24 points and along with third placed Campion College on 16 points, all advanced to the second round of 16.

Excelsior High drew 2-2 with St Jago High and topped the Zone A with 24 points. St Jago High slipped a spot to third on 20 points but are safely through to the second round.

The 16 teams have been placed into four groups with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinal.

Here are the groups below:

  • Group 1 — Excelsior High, Tivoli Gardens High, St Andrew Technical High and Wolmer’s Boys.
  • Group 2 — KC, Calabar High, Campion College and Hydel High.
  • Group 3 — St Catherine High, St George’s College, Charlie Smith and Vauxhall High.
  • Group 4 — Mona High, Jamaica College, Eltham High and St Jago.

The second round kicks off on Wednesday, October 21wity two double headers. At the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium, St catherine High will play Vauxhall High at 2:00 pm before Tivoli Gardens entertain St Andrew High School at 4:15 pm.

At the Stadium east, Excelsior High play Wolmer’s Boys at 2:00 pm before KC tackle Hydel High  at 4:15 pm. Over at Winchester Park home team St George’s College host Charlie Smith at 3:00 pm and Calabar tackle Campion College at Red Hill Road at 3:00 pm.
