A week after his death, Jamaicans on Twitter are today (September 17) choosing to remember 23-year-old past Kingston College (KC) student Matthew Nesbeth for his viral act of kindness.

Nesbeth, who died in a drowning incident at the Caymanas Mineral Spring in St Catherine last Sunday, was the centre of a viral 2015 photo where he catapulted himself into the hearts of Jamaicans for extending kindness to an elderly woman in downtown Kingston.

Captured by Convent of Mercy (Alpha) student Donique Bryan near Sir William Grant Park, Nesbeth was praised for his unwavering humanity as he assisted the elderly woman with a heavy market bag on his way to school.

The memorialised version of Nesbeth’s viral moment of humility—from the late Jamaican’s recent vigil ceremony—has triggered much sadness on the timeline as many Jamaicans recalled the touching encounter and expressed their condolences.
