Kingston College (KC) started their hunt for a record 10th Walker Cup title when they beat St Jago High 4-1 in the first game at Stadium East before Mona High stopped St George’s College 4-2 in the feature encounter on Wednesday.

In the other two Walker Cup games played at the Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College, St Catherine High defeated Campion College 4-2 on penalties after battling to an incredible 4-4 draw in normal time.

So, Mona High, KC, St Catherine and Tivoli Gardens will be joined in the quarterfinals by the team dropping out of the Manning Cup at the quarterfinal stage.

In the feature game at Stadium East, defending champion Mona High, courtesy of a double strike by Sean Leighton, turned back a spirited challenge from St George’s College.

The tall and skilful Leighton, who has 26 goals in the Manning Cup, proved too hot for the Light Blues of North Street.

Shareef Ricketts also scored twice as KC dismissed St Jago 4-1. The Famed Purples have not competed in the Walker Cup since the format was changed in 2018 for the teams that have dropped out of the Manning Cup. They last won in 2016. KC and St George’s College are the most successful teams with nine titles each.

Meanwhile, it was a goal-fest between Campion College and St Catherine High as it ended 4-4 in normal time before St Catherine won 4-2 on penalties. Tivoli Gardens are safely through as well, turning back Wolmer’s Boys 4-2.
