Kingston College (KC) turned in a virtuoso performance, whipping Hydel High 6-1 in Group 3 action of the ISSA Digicel Manning Cup while Calabar and Jamaica College (JC) battled to a 3-3 thriller in Group 4 at the Stadium East.

KC, the most prolific team in the Manning Cup following their 71 goals in the first round from 10 matches, continued their free-flowing style and put Hydel to the sword in what can be seen as sweet revenge after they lost by penalties in last year’s semifinal to Hydel.

In what is deemed the group of death, KC jumped to the top of Group 3 with three points ahead of both Wolmer’s Boy and St Andrew Technical High School on a point each. Hydel are pointless. Kamaul Patterson opened the scoring for KC in the eighth minute tapping home at the far post from a Kimani Reece corner. Kvist Paul headed home a Reece freekick in minute 20 doubling the lead before Deshawn Byfield made it 3-0 with his first of two goals in the 36th minute.

Shereef Ricketts made the game safe firing home in the 57th minute before Ronaldo Barrett reduced the deficit for Hydel from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute. Byfield notched his second in the 77th minute before substitute Zaire Zouse with his first touch rammed home a beautiful volley in the 86th minute after a clearance from a corner fell nicely into his path.

In the curtain raiser, JC and Calabar battled to an exciting 3-3 draw but JC would have left the venue feeling like they dropped two crucial points.

Obryan Marks, with a stunning strike from 35 metres, gave Calabar the lead in the fourth minute but Jahmarley Bennett pulled JC levelled in the 10th minute from the penalty spot. The Dark Blue Boys from Old Hope Road then surged into the lead in the 16th minute as Nashordo Gibbs’ free kick eluded everyone, including goalkeeper Omari Grant.

Kavaun Campbell pulled Calabar levelled in minute 59 but JC surged ahead once again courtesy of an own goal by Damano Blackford in the 75th minute during a failed attempt at clearing the ball. But the boys from Red Hills Road would not be denied and the outstanding Jaheim Rankine saw his deflected shot sailed past the bewildered Nathaniel Aiken in goal in the 90+ minute. Both JC and Calabar are on a point each in Group 4 and are behind St Catherine High on three points after they defeated Charlie Smith 1-0.

In Group 1, Campion College crushed St George’s College 3-0 and moved to three points, the same as Mona High but are second on goal difference. Mona had beaten St Jago 6-0 on Friday.

In Group 2, Excelsior High ended Eltham High’s unbeaten run, winning 3-2 at GC Foster College while Tivoli Gardens destroyed Jonathan Grant 5-0 and assumed top spot in Group 2 with three points because of a better goal difference over Excelsior.
