Kingston College’s Julius Itubo of Kenya annihilated the Class Three 1500m record running a splendid 4:05.15 and was seven seconds below the previous record of 4:12.50 held by Tavaughn Martin since 2019.

The 12-year-old Itubo fumbled at the start, recovered quickly and the race was never in doubt and he steadily moved away from the field, winning by a proverbial city block.

Jevaughn Tomblin of Bellefield High was second in 4:18.30 with Dejaun Gray of STETHS third in 4:23.68.

So impressive were Itubo that the older Class Two winner Thywaine Sterling of Williams Knibbs won in 4:06.24.

In the heats, Itubo clocked 4:14.24 and the writing was on the wall that he would break the record and he delivered.

At 12 years old, Itubo can only compete in one individual event but the frightening thing is that he will still be a Class Three runner next year.
