Outgoing Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke has announced that the Chairman of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC), Keith Duncan is set to lead the Fiscal Advisory Committee.

Clarke made the announcement in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 29.

“The fiscal commission becomes the independent arbiter of Jamaica’s fiscal rules and takes over from the auditor general and what we have done is to institutionalize our experience of having domestic oversight to have a fiscal advisory committee similar to what we have in EPOC…,” Clarke shared.

The independent fiscal commission is set to come into effect on January 1, 2025. The members include trade unionists Helene Davis-Whyte, Nancy Pinchas, Dr Patrice Whitely, and Kareem Tomlinson.

The fiscal commissioner was appointed back in May 2023.

This announcement comes as Clarke is set to make his departure from office today, to occupy the role of deputy managing director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
