Kevin Durant’s move to the Houston Rockets became official on Sunday.
The Rockets struck a deal with the Phoenix Suns to secure the 11-time All-NBA selection.
In exchange for Durant, the Suns will acquire seasoned guards Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, along with six draft picks, including the No. 10 overall selection in the 2025 NBA Draft and five second-round picks.
At 37 years old, Durant is entering the final year of his four-year, $194.2 million contract. Despite battling ankle and calf injuries last season, he put up impressive numbers, averaging 26.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7/43.0/83.9 in 62 games. His departure comes after a disappointing 36-46 campaign for the Suns, who fell short of the playoffs.
Durant now joins a Rockets team that was in the thick of the playoff race last season. Houston’s interest in Durant was mutual, as the veteran forward reportedly listed the Rockets among his preferred destinations, alongside the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
Even at his current age, Durant remains one of the league’s most prolific scorers and playmakers. He is expected to take centre stage in Houston’s offence, providing the team with a proven leader who has won two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors.
The Rockets are banking on Durant’s experience and skill to elevate their status to legitimate title contenders.
