Parents just got another song to take off the playlist for their children.

Silento, the 23-year-old American rapper best known to Jamaicans for his hit song Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae), has been arrested and charged with murder in the aftermath of the shooting death of his 34-year-old cousin.

Cops in DeKalb County, located in Atlanta, Georgia, said in a statement on Twitter that Silento, legal name Ricky Hawk, has been taken into custody and placed in the county jail for the January 21 incident that took the life of Frederick Rooks.

The Dekalb County police did not, however, give any further details.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hawk was being held without bond.

The newspaper had previously reported that police responded to a call of shots fired in Panthersville, Dekalb County around 3:30 a.m. on the morning in question and that Rooks was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Released just five years ago, Watch Me became a massive international hit catapulting Silento to stardom with more than 1.7 billion views on YouTube up to yesterday.

The song, with its child-friendly lyrics and accompanying dance became a staple at children’s parties and even saw the rapper teaming up with cartoon characters like Spongebob for a remixed video.

However, the news of Silento’s murder charge is just the latest in a series of run-ins the artiste has had with the law in recent years.

In August last year he was arrested following a domestic disturbance and charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. After being released, he was arrested again the following day when he walked into a random home with a hatchet and looking for his girlfriend.
