Member of Parliament Candidate for East Rural St Andrew, Patrick Peterkin, and Councillor of the Kintyre Division, Vivienne Brown-Bond, are demanding immediate answers following the failure to reopen the Kintyre Postal Agency (PA) as scheduled on Monday morning, 18th November.
They say despite months of preparation and anticipation, the reopening ceremony did not take place, leaving the community without this critical service.
They noted that the postal agency was fully prepared to resume operations, with a refurbished facility, a trained clerk, and all arrangements in place. However, late instructions from the Postmaster General’s office abruptly halted the event, with no explanation for the delay.
“This morning should have marked a significant milestone for Kintyre,” said Councillor Vivienne Brown-Bond. “The community has waited too long for this essential service, and this last-minute postponement is both disappointing and unjustified. The people of Kintyre deserve better.”

MP candidate Patrick Peterkin added, “It’s unacceptable for politics to overshadow public service. The residents of Kintyre rely on the postal agency, and this delay is a blow to their trust and well-being. We need clarity, and we need the facility reopened immediately.”
Residents have been eagerly awaiting the reopening, which would bring much-needed convenience and support to local economic activity. The delay not only undermines trust but also highlights misplaced priorities when public service should take precedence.
Peterkin and Brown-Bond are urging the relevant authorities to act swiftly and ensure the postal agency is reopened without further delay.
