Jamaica finished the opening day (March 20) in fourth on the medals table with two silver medals, which is led by the United States with three medals, including two gold and a bronze.

However, Jamaica are second in the Placing Tables with 16 points behind the Americans with 24 points. Ukraine are third with 15, just ahead of Sweden with 12 points. Italy completed the top five with 10 points.

Thompson sped to a personal best of 6.45 seconds for second behind American champion Jordan Anthony, who struck gold in a world-leading 6.41s, and countryman, Trayvon Bromell, took bronze in also in 6.45s.

Thompson, who was second in his semis, turned the tables on Bromell, who had defeated him earlier.

Jamaica’s Bryan Levell, who won his semi-final in 6.53s, was seventh in 6.69s and pulled up. He had won his semis in 6.53s. Jamaica’s third entrant, Ackeem Blake, failed to make the final, finishing fourth in his semis in 6.55s.

Meanwhile, Scott leapt 7.33m for silver in the men’s triple jump behind Italian Andy Hernandez with 17.47m. Yaser Mohammed of Algeria was third with 17.30m.

Reheem Hayles could only manage third in his 400m semis, clocking 46.87s and failed to make the final.
