With the release of her debut album, Gifted, less than a month away, Grammy award-winning singer Koffee has hinted at what fans can expect from her upcoming music project.

Speaking candidly in a recent interview with Billboard magazine, the Spanish Town, St Catherine native explained: “There’s a lot of violence happening in my country and countries close by,” and while, she felt shielded from what surrounded her, the looming threats to her community inspired her approach to music.

She stated: “I don’t know if I should say it’s life imitating art, but the (gun-heavy) music and what’s really happening go hand in hand.”

Given this, the singer said: “I try to take my own advice in terms of the type of music I create for my fans – upliftment, positivity, love, having fun and all the wonderful things.”

Such ideals of “positivity” and “wonderful things” have inspired the creation of her long-awaited Gifted album, set to be released on March 25 via Sony Music UK and RCA Records.

The 10-track album will feature previously released singles Pull Up, West Indies and Lockdown and, despite being more stripped-back and acoustic than her debut EP, will still have that “head-bop ability”.

Speaking on the anticipated debut, the Lockdown singer shared: “The pandemic definitely allowed me to choose my own direction a lot more.”

It’s a welcome change in pace that allowed her to be more involved in the production of Gifted than she was on her Grammy award-winning EP, Rapture.

Following her album’s release, the Toast hitmaker will embark on a North American Tour, dubbed ‘Koffee 22 – The Gifted Tour’, which gets under way on April 11, during which time she is also expected to make her Coachella debut.
