It has seemingly taken a month for Jamaican author and public figure Krystal Tomlinson to process being listed among 125 global leaders to look out for in 2022 by readers of US-based business magazine Success.
Tomlinson, in an Instagram post on Tuesday (March 15), while humbled to be included with the likes of American actor Will Smith, Jean Accius, entrepreneur Tom Bilyeu and Nigerian author Luvvie Ajayi Jones, surmised that “imposter syndrome” was nagging at her.
“Today, I officially remove that veil of denial that had me in disbelief. From a nominee to a finalist, to making the @successmagazine list of 125 Most Influential Leaders To Know in 2022 – I am still a little stunned and ALOT grateful. I was notified 1 month ago and it took me that long to process what had actually happened,” said the former People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) president.
Tomlinson beamed with pride for being the first-ever Jamaican recognised on Success Magazine‘s newest list, which celebrates the company’s 125th anniversary by asking readers worldwide to nominate people who have made “long-lasting, positive change” in their lives.
“I’m on a list of persons described as the most powerful voices of today – poets, authors, speakers, athletes, activists. I am still processing the magnitude of that,” mused Tomlinson.
“There’s a reason it took me a full month to grasp that, to diminish that “imposter syndrome” that was telling me I’m not “big enough” for this,” she added.
Success Magazine, in its February 15 article ‘Introducing the SUCCESS 125’, lauded Tomlinson, 31, for her role as Success Farm Life Academy executive director, founder of non-profit organisation Teens on Purpose and leading “an immersive online public speaking [programme] that has served almost 1,000 [Jamaican] students” over the past year.
