After what was initially meant to be an act of ‘kindness’, beauty mogul Kylie Jenner is now facing extreme backlash as fans, followers and critics alike, take jabs at her not so cheerful giving to the GoFundMe campaign of her past makeup artist, Samuel Rauda.

According to Jenner, she first learned of her old friend Samuel’s injuries, sustained in a car accident earlier this month, through her current makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, and felt “compelled” to donate to his GoFundMe campaign.

“They had already raised $6K so I put in $5K to reach their original goal and thought I’d post on my stories to gain more awareness if anyone felt so compelled to share or donate.”

At that time the goal of the campaign had been to raise US$10,000.

“They had already raised $6K so I put in $5K to reach their original goal and thought I’d post on my stories to gain more awareness if anyone felt so compelled to share or donate,” she explained.

Sharing on her Instagram story, Jenner had stated: “May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel. Everyone take a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his family’s go fund me.”

It was an act of kindness that quickly took a turn for the worse when the goal for the campaign was raised to US$120,000, and people called out the reality star, asking why Jenner, who has made the Forbes ’60 Richest Self-Made Women’ list and has a net worth of US$900 million, couldn’t have just paid her former makeup artist’s medical costs herself.

No doubt recognising how her actions may have been misinterpreted by the wider populace, the businesswoman again took to her stories to address the “false narrative” that had been circulating that she had asked fans for money instead of paying her makeup artist’s medical bills.

In a statement released Monday (March 22), Jenner wrote: “Sam isn’t my makeup artist and unfortunately we don’t have a personal relationship anymore, but I have worked with him a few years ago and think he’s the sweetest.”

The statement continued: “I saw my current makeup artist and friend Ariel post about Sam’s accident and his family’s GoFundMe and I called Ariel immediately to see what happened to Sam. After learning in more detail about the accident, it compelled me to visit his GoFundMe which was set at 10k.”

She furthered: “I don’t know how all of this got so twisted but… Anyone that knows me knows that I do things from the heart and I try to be helpful whenever I can be. Let’s all stay positive and keep Sam, his family, and anyone you know who is going through a difficult time in our prayers.”
